Talon Metals Corp. (TSX: TLO) has selected its Humboldt Mill in Michigan as the processing site for the Tamarack nickel-copper-cobalt project. The decision drops plans to build the Beulah Minerals Processing Facility in Mercer County, North Dakota.
Talon took ownership of Humboldt when it bought the Eagle Mine in January 2026. The mill has operated continuously since Eagle entered commercial production in 2014. It uses conventional flotation to produce separate nickel and copper concentrates.
The company said the Eagle acquisition brought an operating U.S. processing facility, an experienced workforce and established technical expertise, none of which were available when the Beulah plan was developed. Talon opted to use that existing infrastructure rather than build a standalone plant.
“The Humboldt Mill gives us the opportunity to build on an existing U.S. processing facility with a proven operational and environmental track record and a highly experienced workforce,” said Chief Executive Officer Darby Stacey. “As we evaluate the future development of the Tamarack Project, we see real value in making the best use of infrastructure we already own and maintaining skilled jobs and economic activity in Michigan.”
Humboldt is already listed as an off-site processing option in the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ environmental review materials for Tamarack.
The change also affects Talon’s US$114.8 million funding agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy. The award was made under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to support the Beulah facility. Talon said it is working with the department on the future of the award.
A feasibility study on processing Tamarack material at Humboldt is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, and is expected to cover the required material handling and process modifications following the Humboldt mill decision.
The announcement came a day after Talon released assay results from the project’s Vault Zone, which had highlight intercepts of 13.37% nickel, 16.54% copper, 0.10% cobalt, 14.49 g/t platinum, 7.85 g/t palladium and 8.56 g/t gold over 46.43 metres from a depth of 752.97 metres in hole 25TK0562A.
Talon Metals last traded at $11.20 on the TSX.
