Maverick Gold & Silver Corp. (CSE: MAV | FWB: VR61 | OTC: VRCFF) is advancing its Jericho Property in Nevada following encouraging results from the company’s first comprehensive sampling program at the project.
In an interview with MiningIR, Vice-President of Exploration Ian Foreman said the program provided Maverick with its own modern exploration data while confirming the presence of a significant mineralized system.
“It’s important for us to be able to put our DNA onto a project,” Foreman explained. Although historical information indicated widespread mineralization, the latest program allowed Maverick to independently evaluate its tenor, style and exploration potential.
The results have strengthened management’s belief that Jericho warrants additional exploration and could ultimately advance to drilling.
“We’ve been able to show that the tenor and the style of mineralization within the Jericho Property really merits follow-up work,” Foreman said. “We’re confident that there’s going to be a drilling decision in our future.”
The Phase 1 program collected 171 chip-channel and grab samples across Jericho, with results from 153 samples reported. Assays ranged up to 7.21 grams per tonne gold and 644 g/t silver. The work established mineralization along two kilometres of strike and confirmed two higher-grade zones extending more than 200 metres each.
Jericho hosts two subparallel structural corridors: the West Trend, traced for more than four kilometres, and the East Trend, traced for approximately two kilometres.
One of the program’s most notable outcomes came from the Tempa Zone, where sampling returned 4.5 metres averaging 323.33 g/t silver and 1.37 g/t gold. Individual samples returned up to 644 g/t silver, while Foreman emphasized that the broader average grade is particularly important when assessing the target’s potential.
“That is a quality silver target,” he said.
The Tempa Zone consists of a quartz-adularia vein and breccia ranging from approximately two to 10 metres wide and traced on surface for 800 metres. Limited sampling also identified a potentially broader bulk-tonnage target within the footwall stockwork zone, where mineralization extends locally up to 7.6 metres from the principal structure.
The results are also changing Maverick’s interpretation of Jericho. Initially viewed as a gold-silver opportunity, the sampling demonstrated an unusually high silver-to-gold ratio, increasingly positioning Jericho as a predominantly silver-focused property.
Maverick also confirmed 13 historical workings across the property, including shafts, adits and excavations. Several are collapsed or inaccessible. To gain insight into mineralization below surface, the exploration team sampled material from associated historical mine dumps.
According to Foreman, these samples provide an indirect but valuable view of material extracted from underground. Results from the dumps were comparable to—and in some cases better than—those obtained from surface sampling.
“That’s really encouraging as to what we would potentially find in a drill program,” he said.
Before drilling begins, Maverick intends to complete additional mapping and sampling to refine the orientation and geometry of the mineralized zones. The company will examine whether higher-grade areas plunge in a particular direction within the vein system and investigate additional targets elsewhere on the property.
Foreman stressed that this preparatory work is essential because drilling is expensive, and Maverick wants to ensure that future holes test the strongest possible targets.
The initial program concentrated primarily on areas highlighted by historical exploration. However, Maverick has identified other parts of Jericho that warrant further investigation and could expand the project’s overall exploration footprint.
“We think that there are some other target areas within the property that could grow to be something quite significant,” Foreman said.
With modern assay results supporting historical evidence, multiple former workings and additional targets awaiting evaluation, Maverick is building the technical foundation for a potential maiden drill program at Jericho.
